Dr. Walter Fain grew up in Knoxville, received his B.S. and D.D.S. degrees from the University of Tennessee and has practiced here for over 30 years. He has attended over 2,000 hours of continuing education courses including over 500 hours at the world-renowned Pankey Institute in Florida as a student and as a visiting faculty member. He has presented seven programs to the local dental society. He is a founding member of the Pankey Study Club of East Tennessee and a member of an implant study club.

Both he and his wife Lynne are involved in church and community activities. Walter is an elder at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church. Lynne has served on various boards including the Knoxville Utilities Board and the Ronald McDonald House. She is a past president of the Junior League and the University of Tennessee Alumni Association. They have two grown children, Beth and Craig.
